Clay Robinson, Supporter of Movember

If you’ve been wondering, “What’s with the excess of creepy moustaches?”, then you are probably not alone. Every year, men around the globe unite during the month formerly known as November to help raise awareness and funds for men’s health by growing and grooming the hair on their upper lip. But Movember isn’t just for men, women everywhere have joined the cause by becoming ‘Mo Sistas’ and helping spread the word. If you’re still wondering what it’s all about? Here’s some more info about Movember, straight from their website:

“Since its humble beginnings in Melbourne, Australia, Movember has grown to become a truly global movement inspiring more than 1.9 Million Mo Bros and Mo Sistas to participate with formal campaigns in Australia, New Zealand, the US, Canada, the UK, South Africa, Ireland, Finland, the Netherlands, Spain, Denmark, Norway, Belgium and the Czech Republic. In addition, Movember is aware of Mo Bros and Mo Sistas supporting the campaign and men’s health cause across the globe, from Russia to Dubai, Hong Kong to Antarctica, Rio de Janeiro to Mumbai, and everywhere in between. No matter the country or city, Movember will continue to work to change established habits and attitudes men have about their health, to educate men about the health risks they face, and to act on that knowledge, thereby increasing the chances of early detection, diagnosis and effective treatment. In 2011, over 854,000 Mo Bros and Mo Sistas around the world got on board, raising $126.3 million USD.

The funds raised in the US support prostate cancer and testicular cancer initiatives. The funds raised are directed to programs run directly by Movember and our men’s health partners, the Prostate Cancer Foundation and LIVESTRONG Foundation. Together, the three channels work together to ensure that Movember funds are supporting a broad range of innovative, world-class programs in line with our strategic goals in the areas of awareness and education, survivorship and research.”

For the third year in a row, Sun King has been working with Movember Indy, a group of community conscious men and women who volunteer their time to help champion the cause in Indianapolis. This year we brewed a beer, Stiff Upper Lip, in honor of the cause and a portion of the proceeds from every keg and growler sold will be donated to Movember. We also created some limited edition t-shirts and koozies with our friends from Distinct Images (www.distinctimages.net) that you can pick up in our Tasting Room and demonstrate your support throughout the year. To top it all off, we created giant moustaches, named Harry the Mo and Felix the Mo, that people been making donations in order to place them in their friend’s yards! Perhaps you’ve seen a giant Mo on the loose near you…

Now that Movember is coming to an end, we’d like to ask one last time for you to consider visiting our Movember page (http://us.movember.com/mospace/708992) and making a donation. Any amount helps as 1 in 6 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime, so if you or someone you love has a prostate, your donation could make a huge difference in their lives!
