Keep Indianapolis Beautiful & Sun King partner for Draught for Drought

There’s a lot of things we’re passionate about here at Sun King.

At the top of the list, as you might have guessed, is making quality craft beer for you to enjoy. But the list certainly doesn’t end there. We’re also passionate about good food, good music, our city, being good stewards to the community, helping others, and more. It’s why you see us sponsor so many events, like the “Draught for Drought” event at Keep Indianapolis Beautiful (KIB) on September 14.

We all know what a rough summer it was for the crops of Indiana. Whole fields of corn had to be plowed under and our lawns felt more like brillo pads than grass. Not many people think about the trees, though, which bear the stress of an extreme drought the same as crops or lawns. KIB has been watering more than 10,000 trees all over the city of Indianapolis to keep them healthy, and we felt that was a cause worth supporting.

So, with the assistance of our good friends at Spice Box and Groovy Guys Fries brought some good food along with some Fresh•Local•Beer to the parking lot of KIB and held a fundraiser. For just $5, guests received admission, a commemorative pint glass, other takeaways and had the chance to learn about how to properly take care of trees during a severe drought. Guests also took tours of the KIB headquarters — the first LEED Gold-certified nonprofit in Indiana — learned from experts at education stations and enjoyed live music.

In total, the event raised more than $3,000 for KIB’s tree-watering efforts, and, equally important, raised awareness of preserving our city’s trees in the face of a harsh summer.

Thank you to everyone who came out to the event and supported the cause.
