Hey Indy: Do you bleed red or blue?
Hoops & Heroes Pits Indianapolis Police vs. Firefighters
The rivalry between Purdue and Indiana University pales in comparison. Cats vs. dogs doesn’t even come close to the intensity you’ll feel at this year’s Hoops & Heroes basketball showdown between the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department and the Indianapolis Fire Department.
Come cheer on both teams Saturday, Oct. 1 at Marian University!
All proceeds from this classic Hoosier event, which also kicks off Domestic Violence Awareness Month, will support the safety, stability, and self-sufficiency programs at The Julian Center, a nonprofit that provides shelter and gives hope to survivors of domestic and sexual violence and their families.
“Dr. Dunk” Youth Basketball Clinic & Other Fun
Before tip-off, Darnell “Dr. Dunk” Hillman will host a Jr. Pacers/Jr. Fever basketball clinic for kids age 12 and under. Kids can also climb through and explore a police car and fire engine, take the free-throw challenge, and enjoy the special halftime show, balloon animals, face painting, and giveaways. And because it’s no fun to watch basketball without popcorn, concession stands will be open.

IMPD won the game last year in an exciting 65 to 60 finish in front of 700 fans, and leads the series 2 to 1. The event raised a whopping $82,000 last year for The Julian Center. Can you help us fill 1,000 seats and raise $100,000 this year? Sure you can!
“While it’s all for a good cause, the officers and firefighters take this game very seriously,” says Catherine O’Connor, president and CEO, The Julian Center. “Bragging rights are on the line—and the competition is intense. We are forever grateful to these brave men and women who work so tirelessly to keep us safe from abuse and other harm.”
So put on your favorite blue and red gear and join us for the Hoops & Heroes fun this year!
