Wednesday, October 03, 2012

Heartland Truly Moving Pictures presents the 21st Annual Heartland Film Festival October 18-27, will be showcasing 118 inspiring independent films from around the world. There were a record-breaking number of film submissions received this year, so you can expect an exceptional selection of films. You can also expect the best in Fresh•Local•Beer at a few of the Festival’s special events: Heartland Truly Moving Pictures is proud to have Sun King Brewing Company as the Official Beer of the 2012 Heartland Film Festival!

Based in Indianapolis, Heartland’s mission is to inspire filmmakers and audiences through the transformative power of film. Sun King Brewing Co. works to strengthen the community through nonprofit partnership and support. It’s within that spirit that Heartland and Sun King will work together to inspire the Indianapolis community and beyond.

Sun King will be at Heartland’s Opening Night Event on October 18th at the Indianapolis Museum of Art (IMA), where for the first time in Festival history a documentary film will kick off the Festival’s events. High Ground, produced by Academy Award®-nominated producer Don Hahn (Walt Disney’s The Lion KingBeauty and the Beast) tells the stories of American Veterans as they face the trek and climb Mount Lobuche in the Himalayan Mountains. Don Hahn and a few of the film’s featured Veterans will be attending the screening and will take part in a Q&A session after the film. Many local Veterans’ groups will also be in attendance and honored at the event. Learn more about the Opening Night Event and buy tickets today.

Sun King will once again join Heartland at the end of the Festival, providing moviegoers with Fresh•Local•Beer at the Closing Night Event at the IMA. In the documentary Under African Skies director Joe Berlinger (Crude, Paradise Lost) travels back to South Africa with Paul Simon—his first trip back in 25 years, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the historic Graceland album and play a reunion concert. Despite its huge success and despite it being the first popular/successful example of fusing American and African musical styles, Graceland was initially met with tremendous political crossfire as Paul was accused of breaking the UN cultural boycott of South Africa designed to end the apartheid regime. Paul Simon revisits these ghosts as the musical journey is explored. The film features interviews with Oprah Winfrey, Paul McCartney, Harry Belafonte, David Byrne, Philip Glass, Lorne Michaels, Whoopi Goldberg, Quincy Jones and Steve Van Zandt. The music and good vibes will continue on to the Closing Night After Party, where fans and filmmakers will close the Festival with a celebration at the Jazz Kitchen. Learn more about the Closing Night Events and buy tickets.

Sun King and Heartland Truly Moving Pictures will not stop there. Expect to hear more about special events and Fresh•Local•Beer at events throughout the year.

In the meantime, watch for Sun King contest emails for a chance to win Heartland Film Festival tickets to.

This year’s Festival screenings will take place at AMC Castleton Square 14 and AMC Showplace Traders Point 12 theaters. Learn more about Heartland Film Festival events, tickets, films and more at www.HeartlandFilmFestival.org.
