Today, more than any time in the past, we are part of a global society where cultural influences can be found all around us. Our community is no exception, and the Indianapolis Sister Cities International (ISCI) program works hard to ensure that.
The ISCI, which strives to make Indianapolis a more globally recognized and welcoming city, has eight sister cities, including Taipei, Taiwan; Cologne, Germany; Monza, Italy; Piran, Slovenia; Hangzhou, China; Campinas, Brazil; Northamptonshire County, UK; and Hyderabad, India.
On Saturday, September 15th, it put on the Indianapolis Sister Cities International Festival. The event was split up into four zones at the City Market, including the Sister Cities Plaza where the eight sister cities were represented, Global Crossroads, Global Explorer and the World Sports Park.
Sun King served as a Diplomat Sponsor for the event and the Sun King van was on hand to provide attendees with refreshments in the form of Fresh•Local•Beer. All around the City Market courtyard and on Market Street exhibitors from set up tents to show off their local culture. Among them were the Indiana German heritage Society, the Italian Heritage Society of Indiana, and the Mexican Consulate/Consular Corps of Indianapolis.
There were also merchants selling a variety of handmade cultural crafts, and food was available from Tacos without Borders, Passage to India, 8 China Buffet and more. And for those interested in international sports, the World Sports Park area offered a look into athletics such as Cricket, Bocce, Rugby and Hurling.
Thanks to the Mayor’s office for getting us involved in this wonderful event and don’t forget to look for us at many more events his fall by staying tuned to our events page.
